Storage Capacity in the DACH Region follows Trend toward C&I Segment

Battery storage capacity distribution by installer type and country

Though they have the trend toward C&I in common, there are clear differences between the residential and C&I segments across the three countries. In 2025, surveyed C&I installers in Germany installed 89% of their storage capacity in the segment of >100 kWh. Residential installers installed 92% in the segment of up to 20 kWh. In both Austria and Switzerland, C&I installers are significantly less focused on the >100 kWh segment (10%). 74% of their installed storage capacity in 2025 was situated in between >10 kWh up to 50 kWh. For residential installers, these segments account for 70% of installed capacity, but they also install a proportionally higher number of systems in the 5–10 kWh range.

Frequently asked questions

In 2025, C&I installers in Germany primarily focused on the >100 kWh storage capacity segment, accounting for 89% of their installed capacity. This indicates a strong preference among German commercial and industrial clients for larger-scale energy storage solutions, reflecting market demand for significant energy independence or grid services.

In 2025, residential installers in Germany concentrated on the up to 20 kWh storage capacity segment, representing 92% of their installed capacity. This highlights the prevalence of smaller, household-scale energy storage systems in the German residential market, typically used for self-consumption optimization and backup power.

In 2025, C&I installers in Austria and Switzerland primarily focused on the >10 kWh up to 50 kWh storage capacity segment, which constituted 74% of their installed capacity. This contrasts with Germany, as only 10% of their capacity was in the >100 kWh segment, indicating a preference for mid-range storage solutions in these countries.

In 2025, residential installers in Austria and Switzerland primarily installed storage capacity in the >10 kWh up to 50 kWh segments, accounting for 70% of their installed capacity. Additionally, these installers also deployed a proportionally higher number of systems in the 5–10 kWh range, catering to diverse residential needs across the DACH region.
